Fig trees do not flower in the same way as other fruit trees such as almonds or cherry trees do. The flowers of the fig tree grow inside a pear-shaped pod that later ripens into the fruit we know, the fig.

Each fig contains many flowers and each of these flowers produces a single fruit called achene. These fruits are very small and contain a seed. It is precisely these achenes that provide the fig with its characteristic texture.
